Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has responded to the controversy surrounding a recent promotional video for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
It was reported that the promotional video, which circulated online, showed Iyabo Ojo encouraging the public to use FAAN’s protocol services, which she described as providing comfort, speed, and exclusivity for airport travellers. It was reported that the promotional video, which made the rounds online, captured Iyabo Ojo encouraging the public to utilise FAAN’s protocol services, which she described as offering comfort, speed, and exclusivity for travellers navigating the airport.
However, the video sparked backlash on social media, with many netizens recalling how the movie star had previously criticised the current administration and wondering how she could now appear in a campaign promoting a government-owned agency.
Others accused Iyabo Ojo of hypocrisy and political inconsistency, citing her support for Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) 2023 presidential candidate.
The actress defended her decision to appear in the campaign video, stating that the promotional work was done completely free of charge and was not political.
Iyabo Ojo stated that she was truly inspired by the airport’s tangible improvements, which included upgraded facilities, a more efficient system, and newly constructed access roads.
According to the 48-year-old actress, she praises the good rather than the government, but she will continue to applaud the government as it improves.
She wrote, “I’m Nigerian.” And I am a voice. When I see progress, such as upgraded airports, rebuilt roads, and improved systems, I shout it from the rooftops, if necessary, not because I’m paid or politically motivated, but because I feel it and want the best for my country. I will continue to use my craft and voice to promote Nigeria, and I will not apologise for it.
“As an influential person, frequent traveller, good citizen, and child of this land… I got approved to film at the airport.” FAAN contacted me: You’ve seen the changes; please help us spread the word. So, I did. *For free.* There is no fee. There is no contract. It’s just love for Nigeria.
“Note: My fees as an influencer are much higher than the cost of filming at the airport, so I won’t call it a “trade” by Bata… but just for the love of seeing changes.”
“Some ask why we should praise them. I say, “I praise GOOD, not government,” and if the government does good, I will praise them as well.
“I praised FAAN; they are doing an excellent job. I am a frequent customer. They even did an excellent job with my daughter’s wedding. What about my loyalty to my country? Always. I am not just a voice. I am a movement.
“If Nigeria is to rise, we must all contribute to its development. Silence benefits no one. Progress requires witnesses, amplifiers, and, most importantly, you and me. That’s our victory.
“I’ll work with any political party as long as it’s about creating a better future for our beloved country. No hatred. There’s no agenda. Only hands were joined. Let us stop dividing. “Start building.”
