Robert Duvall, a veteran American actor who starred in Apocalypse Now and The Godfather, passed away at the age of 95.

On Monday, Luciana Duvall, his wife, posted a statement on his Facebook page announcing his death. He passed away quietly at home on Sunday, according to her.

We bid farewell to my husband, a dear friend and one of the greatest actors of our time, yesterday. She wrote, “Bob died quietly at home, surrounded by love and comfort.”

To the world, he was a director, a storyteller, and an Academy Award-winning actor. He was just everything to me. Only his intense love of characters, a delicious meal, and holding court could match his passion for his craft.

Bob put his all into his characters and the truth of the human spirit they embodied in each of his numerous roles. He leaves us all with something enduring and unforgettable in the process.

“We appreciate you providing us with this time and privacy to honour Bob’s legacy and for your years of support.”

Duvall worked as an actor, director, and producer for over 60 years.

He received training from Dustin Hoffman and Gene Hackman at the Neighbourhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in New York.

Before becoming well-known for his role as Boo Radley in To Kill a Mockingbird, he started performing on stage and television in the late 1950s.

Later, he won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Mac Sledge in Tender Mercies and received widespread praise for his portrayal of Tom Hagen in The Godfather and its follow-up.

Apocalypse Now, The Great Santini, and Lonesome Dove are some other noteworthy pieces.
