Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday has sparked online discussion after discussing the growing controversy surrounding cosmetic surgery and how women are treated regarding their bodies.
The actress reportedly expressed her opinions in a social media video, addressing men who, after years of berating women for their appearance, now advise them to accept their natural bodies.
She claimed that persistent social pressure and insults have forced many women to undergo cosmetic procedures.
She claims that the same people who made fun of women for not having particular body types are now telling them to love who they are and stay away from surgery.
According to Nkechi Blessing, procedures like the Brazilian Butt Lift, or BBL, have become more common as a result of the negative remarks made about women’s bodies.
The mother of one clarified that persistent criticism and expectations placed on women frequently result in pressure to meet specific beauty standards.
“You people made fun of women’s bodies for years, but now you are the ones telling them to love themselves the way they are,” the woman stated. Because they were subjected to body-related insults and pressure, many women chose BBL. You used to bully women for not having large buttocks, and now you advise them against having surgery. No amount of abuse or insults will force me to alter my physical appearance. This body is the result of my efforts and accomplishments.
“I will not change my body because people talk about it because I am proud of it.” Women ought to have the autonomy to decide what to do with their bodies. I will only have weight-loss surgery if I ever decide to have any. I’m not going to use BBL-style enhancement procedures. People ought to quit criticising women for the decisions they make regarding their bodies.
