Actress Wunmi Mosaku and a Nigerian film were among the notable triumphs Nigerians achieved on Sunday at the 2026 BAFTA Film Awards in London, United Kingdom. One of the winners is My Father’s Shadow.
Mosaku continued her impressive run at the BAFTAs, where she had previously won the same category in 2017 for Damilola, Our Loved Boy, by winning Best Supporting Actress for her role in Sinners.
The Nigerian actress, who has received numerous BAFTA nominations over the years and is well-known for her roles in Hollywood and British productions, is quickly rising to prominence as one of the most well-known African performers worldwide.
The Nigerian brothers Akinola and Wale Davies’ film My Father’s Shadow, which won Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director, or Producer, also garnered attention.
Since its premiere, the film has received widespread international acclaim. It was acclaimed by critics and debuted in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival, making it the first Nigerian film to be chosen for the official lineup.
The drama, which is set in Lagos during the 1993 election crisis, centres on a father and his two sons as they navigate the city during a tense political moment.
