Funke Akindele and the “Behind The Scenes” team have been congratulated by the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) on reaching a significant milestone in African cinema. The Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) has congratulated Funke Akindele and the ‘Behind The Scenes’ team on achieving a historic milestone in African cinema.

The movie is the first Nollywood production in Africa to surpass N2 billion in box office receipts.

On Instagram, NFC CEO Dr. Ali Nuhu commended the movie’s record-breaking box office performance in important markets, such as the UK and Ireland, where it is the highest-grossing Nollywood film.

In addition to the cast and crew’s commitment, he credited the team’s creative vision, production, and distribution strategies for its success.

“The Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) extends its heartfelt congratulations to Ms. Funke Akindele and the entire ‘Behind The Scenes’ team on reaching a historic milestone in African cinema,” Nuhu posted on Instagram. The movie is the first Nollywood production in Africa to make over ₦2 billion at the box office.

Released on December 12, 2025, “Behind the Scenes” has not only struck a chord with viewers across the country but has also achieved record-breaking commercial success in important markets, such as the UK and Ireland, where it is currently the highest-grossing Nollywood film.

This accomplishment is the outcome of careful creative vision, strategic production and distribution, and the combined efforts of a talented ensemble cast and a seasoned production team.

“Behind the Scenes” represents a major development in Nollywood’s artistic and commercial maturity from an industry standpoint. The fastest movie in West Africa to reach ₦1 billion within weeks of its release, the highest Boxing Day single-day gross, and now the first to reach ₦2 billion in Africa are just a few examples of the milestones that highlight Nigeria’s film industry’s growing strength and ability to compete internationally.

“This milestone is celebrated by the Nigerian Film Corporation as a joint victory for Nollywood, the creative economy, and Nigerian storytelling globally. We applaud the director, actors, crew, exhibitors, distributors, and—above all—the fans whose support made this cinematic endeavour a historic success.
