There’s a new sheriff at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)!
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially sworn in Professor Joash Amupitan, SAN, as the new INEC Chairman. The ceremony went down around 1:50 p.m. inside the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, with top government officials and dignitaries in attendance.
During the swearing-in, Tinubu didn’t mince words — he charged Prof. Amupitan to protect the integrity of Nigeria’s elections, strengthen INEC’s capacity, and uphold transparency in every electoral process.
Amupitan’s appointment comes shortly after his Senate confirmation on October 16, following what sources describe as a “tough and thorough” screening session.
So yes, INEC has a new boss — and expectations are sky-high!
