Shoneyin announced this via a Facebook post. She wrote this:
“I’m thrilled to be working with @ebonylifestudios, my sister @moabudu, @heidiwena, and director @danieloriahi on the screen adaptation of The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives.” The cast has left me speechless. I am very excited!! “Let the magic begin.”
The novel, which follows the titular Baba Segi, his four wives, and seven children, as well as the unravelling of a secret, challenges the household’s beliefs about power, masculinity, and womanhood. It explores polygamy, rivalry, sexuality, mental health, and African women’s lived experiences.
Produced by Mo Abudu’s EbonyLife Group in collaboration with Genesis Group, Nile Media Entertainment Group, and Silverbird Group, the project will bring together four major African film, media, and exhibition companies.
Daniel Oriahi will direct the project from a script adapted by Adze Ugah. Heidi Uys, Chris Odeh, Mimi Bartels, and Shoneyin all serve as producers. Abudu, Nnaeto Orazulike and Moses
Babatope and Guy Murray Bruce are executive producers. Temidayo Makanjuola is the Head of Production Design, and Yolanda Okereke oversees the wardrobe.
