Habeeb Okikiola (Portable), a controversial singer, has been released from police custody after a week. Controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has regained his freedom after spending about one week in police custody.
On January 12, the singer was charged with assault, theft, causing harm, and resisting arrest at an Ota Magistrate’s Court in Ogun State.
Portable was accused of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300 valued at ₦12 million.
The court, however, denied him bail because the police officer involved in the case was absent, resulting in his continued detention.
Following his release, a video that has since gone viral showed the singer surrounded by friends who were overjoyed to see him again.
Portable jokingly announced his new nickname, “Innocenty”, to cheers from his supporters.
Portable’s manager, Baby Luv, took to Instagram after his release to thank the singer’s first wife, Bewaji, for her support throughout the ordeal.
Portable posted a photo of herself with Bewaji, captioned “All glory to God.” Grace spoke, and mercy triumphed. #Freedom. She stayed through the most difficult times. God respected her faith. #Thankful”
This is not the singer’s first detention. Portable has been arrested, arraigned, and remanded on numerous occasions since his rise to prominence in 2022, reportedly more than eight times, in correctional facilities in Kwara, Ogun, and Lagos states.
