Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, also known as Portable, has shared his childhood struggles.
Portable revealed that he hawked sachet water to pay for his education without a sponsor, and that he is now responsible for supporting his family despite being regarded as the “olodo” in the house.
According to reports, the controversial singer made the revelation during an appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast, which Glitch Africa Studios published as a YouTube Shorts video on Monday.
He discussed his early struggles, family dynamics, and determination to finish his education.
Portable explained that he was unable to complete his formal education at the time because he had to support himself.
“I don’t finish school; when I go to school, I sell pure water; no one sponsors me,” he stated.
However, the singer expressed optimism about returning to school, saying, “I will still finish school; I am a Kwara Poly student.”
Portable also discussed his family, claiming that while his father paid for his siblings’ education, he was left to fend for himself and was considered the dull one.
“My papa sent my brothers and sisters to school, and I used to be Olodo, but now I have to feed everyone,” he said.
