Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, also known as Portable, claims to be the new Fela Anikulapo Kuti. Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has declared himself to be the newborn Fela Anikulapo Kuti.
According to reports, the Zazoo Zeh crooner recently released a video in which he compared himself to Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, declaring that no musician today can surpass him.
He said, “Wizkid says he’s the new Fela; has he ever been to prison? I am Tony Montana from London. If you claim to be bigger than Fela, have you ever died? Have you been to prison before? Has life previously dealt with you?
“How much do you have in your account?” You are this, you are that, and the latter is for your pocket.
“Man, I’m bigger than you. I’ve been in prison more than you. I faced it and was implicated. I spent both money and my body.
“Who do you help? Do you feed people? I’ve fed people on the street, shared food, and made a direct impact on people’s lives.
“You’re bigger than Fela, for what? Am I a bigger person than you? Did I see you when I needed help? Will we be the same if we drive the same car as you? I’m more popular than you.” I am the newborn Fela.”
The statement follows an ongoing feud between Seun Kuti and Wizkid. The statement follows an ongoing feud between Seun Kuti and Wizkid.
The conflict began when Seun Kuti rejected comparisons between Wizkid and his father, claiming that words like “bigger” and “more influential” diminish Fela’s legacy.
He argued that Fela’s influence as a political and cultural activist extended beyond his musical success.
Seun has also chastised Wizkid’s fans for repeatedly mentioning Fela in online debates, describing their actions as disrespectful.
Seun also stated that equating modern commercial success with Fela’s historical influence is a misunderstanding of history.
While acknowledging Wizkid’s accomplishments as an artist, Seun questioned why people feel the need to say he is better than Fela.
He also expressed concern about Wizkid’s use of the nickname “Big Bird”, claiming that it was previously associated with him and should not be copied.
In response, Wizkid took to Instagram to clarify his position, stating that he rejects comparisons to Fela and considers himself to be greater in terms of modern success.
