Nigerian musician Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, popularly known as Iyanya, has revealed how he has been able to manage fame positively for 17 years in the entertainment industry, attributing his longevity to guidance and mentorship.
The singer revealed the information during a recent Afropolitan Podcast episode in which he discussed the demands of celebrity and the value of maintaining one’s sense of reality. The singer made the disclosure in a recent episode of the Afropolitan Podcast, where he spoke about the pressures of fame and the importance of staying grounded.
Despite the realities of celebrity life, Iyanya claimed that allowing trusted people to guide him had helped him keep perspective and balance.
“Thanks to guidance, I have been able to sustain my fame in a positive way for 17 years.” “Every famous person or entertainer needs guidance, so I told my younger self not to take things personally,” he said.
He says that because celebrity can be deceptive and overwhelming, entertainers need people to hold them accountable.
“Because everything will happen so quickly and nothing is real, you need one, two, or three people in your life to help you stay grounded. He continued, “You’re going to walk into a president’s office, and he’s going to know your name and sing your song, but it’s not real.”
The singer emphasised that performers shouldn’t depend on public approval, pointing out that the fame-related attention and recognition can vanish just as fast.
“If you don’t get together two or three years later, the same guy won’t remember you.” He said, “They’ll need to remind him about your meeting with him.”
Iyanya advised entertainers and celebrities to consult with trusted individuals in their lives and to follow their advice.
He emphasised that these people offer guidance and moral support, assisting public figures in navigating the various stages of celebrity and personal development while avoiding the traps that frequently come with being a famous person.
