Veteran actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has offered guidance to couples experiencing resistance from a partner’s family.

Speaking about relationship dynamics in an interview on The Morayo Show, Omotola encouraged people to sincerely try to develop empathy and trust with disapproving family members by being patient and persistent. Speaking on relationship dynamics during an interview on The Morayo Show, Omotola urged individuals to make sincere efforts to foster understanding and build trust with disapproving relatives through patience and consistent engagement.

However, as Omotola, I would suggest that if your spouse’s family doesn’t like you, do everything in your power to help them understand you. However, some parents are just adamant about not liking you,” she stated.

The actress went on to say that early resistance frequently results from preconceived ideas, pointing out that some families make decisions based on personal biases or ethnic backgrounds.

“You’re not going to do anything. They already have their own opinions and have preconceived notions, so they may not like you because you’re from a certain region of Nigeria or the world,” she continued.

She warns that not all resistance can be overcome, but couples should make an effort to help families understand their viewpoint.

Omotola emphasises that marriage is a demanding institution and that it can be unduly difficult to enter a lifelong partnership without family support.

“Some people may change their minds, which is risky because it could mean they do it again. However, my advice is that it’s really not worth it.” In and of itself, marriage is an institution that presents many challenges. It’s a journey that lasts a lifetime,” she added.

She urged couples to consider their options carefully before entering into relationships in which animosity endures, stressing the value of early support because, without it, the path can be extremely difficult.

“So why do you want to begin with individuals who are already opposed to you in some way? You want to enter into love because you will require assistance at every turn. You will therefore have a very difficult journey if these people do not support you from the start. “Good luck, and go for it if that’s the life you want,” she said.
