Timaya, a Nigerian singer, has generated discussion after a video of him advising other musicians on relationships went viral.

According to reports, Timaya stated in the video that it might be preferable to have kids without getting married.

    Many marriages fail, he contended.

“Just born, pikin; go grow.” He remarked, “This marriage thing no dey work”, which caused people in the room to laugh and react in different ways.

Timaya, who was born in 1980 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has long expressed his disinterest in getting married.

Despite having children, he claimed in a 2024 interview on Naija FM that he has never felt the need to formalise his relationships.

He clarified that he has never found marriage to be personally appealing, but he did not rule out the possibility that this could change in the future.

The singer, who became well-known in the middle of the 2000s thanks to songs like “Dem Mama,” is the father of four children from three different women.

His first two daughters, Emmanuella and Gracey, were born to interior designer Barbara Fumnaya Nwaokolo in 2012 and 2015, respectively.

Later, he had a fourth child, Maya, with businesswoman Dunnie Onasanya in 2020 and a son, Emmanuel, with Tamar in 2018.

He has also mentioned fatherhood as one of the most rewarding parts of his life in previous interviews.
