Following an alleged incident involving defamation, cyber harassment, and invasion of privacy, Osarobo Odigie, a woman from Lagos, has filed a lawsuit against TikToker Habeeb Hamzat, also known as Peller, seeking N395 million in damages.
The claimant’s legal team described an encounter that took place at Folixxx Lounge in Lekki early on January 6, 2026, in a pre-action letter dated March 10, 2026, signed by Bola Osineye of FA Garrick & Co.
The letter claims that Odigie was at the lounge buying food when the influencer’s “loud outburst” startled her.
“The reason our client was at Folixxx Lounge was to buy food. Your loud outburst right behind our client startled her while she was standing at the counter/cashier area.
“You confronted her violently and told her to “shut up.” The letter stated, “You immediately turned to verbal abuse, including but not limited to Yoruba curses, when she asked you to moderate yourself in a public space.”
The attorneys claim that Hamzat responded with verbal abuse and Yoruba slurs when Odigie asked him to lower his volume in public.
The letter also alleges that Hamzat recorded the altercation without permission and shared the video on Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, and WhatsApp, where it swiftly gained popularity among his sizable fan base.
“You then escalated the situation by showing your cell phone and recording our client without her permission. After that, you shared the video on Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, Snapchat, and other social media sites, which led to public mockery of our client,” the letter continued.
“Our client has experienced severe emotional distress and has grown to genuinely worry about her safety.
The letter said, “The video went viral almost immediately due to your substantial online presence and following as a streamer and public influencer. Thousands of comments followed, many of which repeated and amplified your defamatory remarks against her.”
As a result, the legal team is requesting N200 million for compensation for defamatory publications, N100 million for emotional distress and reputational damage, N75 million for distress brought on by threats and cyberbullying, and N20 million for legal fees.
Along with the monetary demands, the claimant is requesting that the content be immediately removed from all platforms and that a public apology be posted on his social media accounts and in two national newspapers.
The attorneys stated, “You must publicly, unequivocally, and clearly apologise to our client on all platforms where the defamatory content was published.”
The claimant’s attorneys have cautioned that failure to comply with these new demands within seven days will result in the start of formal legal proceedings, despite Hamzat’s earlier public apology on January 9 acknowledging his reaction was out of character.
The letter said, “If you fail, refuse, or neglect to comply… our client shall, without further recourse to you, institute appropriate legal proceedings against you.”
