Celebrities cannot solve the nation’s problems on their own, according to well-known Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, better known by his stage name Mr P. He emphasises that significant change necessitates the participation of all citizens.

The statement was made by the former member of the now-defunct music group P-Square in response to repeated calls for public figures and entertainers to speak out against insecurity, bad governance, and Nigerians’ economic struggles.

Speaking in an interview with a radio station in Lagos, Mr. P expressed worries about the country’s situation and pointed out that many Nigerians share similar issues.

He reportedly thought back on his earlier remarks about avoiding conversations about the nation’s problems.

He claims that many common people do not have access to personal security and other types of protection, even though some public figures may.

The musician insisted that everyone owns Nigeria and that celebrities shouldn’t be the only ones tasked with making the nation better.

The singer claimed that when national issues come up, a lot of people vent their annoyance at entertainers, expecting them to spearhead protests or public campaigns.

“I apologise for stating that I will no longer be concerned about Nigeria’s problems. I may be guided by security firms, but not everyone can afford it. We are the only ones who can make positive changes in this country.

But Nigeria cannot be saved by celebrities alone. Those who are demanding that celebrities speak out against poor governance ought to refocus their efforts. It has nothing to do with celebrities. We have all been let down by this government. But if we work together, we can make the change we want,” he said.
