Brymo, a Nigerian singer, has called on some of the nation’s biggest musicians to give up the limelight and let up-and-coming artists take centre stage.
According to reports, the singer commented on the dominance of a few well-known names in Nigerian music during a recent interview on TVC.
He claims that while younger musicians who ought to be at the forefront of the pop music scene are not getting enough attention, discussions in the industry still centre on big names like Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy.
Brymo contended that the ongoing “Big 3” debate has kept attention on a select few artists, making it more difficult for up-and-coming acts to receive the recognition they merit.
According to him, the focus should be shifted from criticisms of the calibre of music produced by younger vocalists to the fact that certain veterans still hold the largest position in public conversations.
“We need to stop talking about how the new artists lack lyrical substance and focus on how some artists want to lock down the industry for themselves with the ‘Big 3’ narrative and continue reigning forever,” he stated.
“They ought to move aside. Without a doubt, Rema ought to be the biggest pop star in the nation right now. All this talk about Burna Boy, Wizkid, 2Face, and Olamide. Why? In pop culture? Are they singing? You can turn on the radio, but no one is interested in your stuff anymore. Move on and change.
