Temilade Openiyi, better known by her stage name Tems, is a Nigerian Grammy-winning singer who admitted to feeling anxious during her performance at the Obama Presidential Centre’s official dedication ceremony in Chicago, Illinois.

Following her performance at the high-profile event on Wednesday, where she joined several international music stars to celebrate the opening of the new centre, the singer made the revelation on 𝕏.

After calling the daughters of former US President Barack Obama by the incorrect names while speaking on stage, Tems reportedly posted her opinions on social media.

She apologised for the mistake and acknowledged that she was nervous during the ceremony.

“Lord knows I was nervous,” she wrote. Please pardon me!

The $850 million facility was formally dedicated at the event, which took place at John Lewis Plaza on the 19-acre Obama Presidential Centre campus, before its June 19 public opening.

It is anticipated that community events will go on until June 21.

Jennifer Hudson, Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, John Legend, Christina Aguilera, Common, Bono, The Edge, Marc Anthony, and The Roots were among the other performers.

The dedication ceremony on June 18 marked the start of the Obama Presidential Centre celebrations, which will continue through June 21 with a public opening and community activities.

A portrait by Nigerian-born artist Njideka Akunyili Crosby is also on display at the centre.
