Most Musicians Fail Because of Their Women, According To Baba Fryo

Veteran Nigerian singer Baba Fryo has talked candidly about marriage and relationships, stating that he still thinks it can be easier for musicians to have a partner who is familiar with the entertainment business.

In an interview with the Cable Lifestyle, the singer—who acknowledged that he is currently married—reflected on a comment he had made years prior about wishing he had wed someone in the entertainment business.

It was reported that Baba Fryo said he still shares that view to some extent, noting that a partner involved in entertainment would better understand the nature of his work.

According to him, “if I say, ‘Okay, this is what I’m doing,’ she will understand.” He added that people who are not in the industry often struggle to fully grasp the demands and realities of the profession.

However, the musician said his thinking has evolved.

He clarified that having a similar profession is not as important as understanding and support. “It’s just a matter of understanding, too,” he said.

According to the singer, he has also come to the realisation that getting married to another performer does not ensure a happy marriage.

He added that “if a musician’s fan can cause an issue between two musicians”, the same could occur in a marriage involving two celebrities, highlighting the fact that outside influences can still cause problems between couples.

The Denge Pose crooner stated that having “someone who understands your kind of business, who is loyal to you, who respects you” is crucial.

Respect is “the ultimate in marriage”, he said, adding that relationships frequently become challenging when partners don’t understand each other.

According to him, “when your partner doesn’t understand you, I don’t think things will work out.” He maintained that mutual understanding is necessary for both a successful marriage and a successful career.

The singer also spoke about the challenges many musicians face in balancing their careers and relationships.

He said some entertainers end up holding themselves back because they are trying to avoid conflicts at home. He stated that “most musicians fall today” because they constantly try to adjust themselves to keep their partners happy.

He further warned that “if a man keeps doing that, the man will go down,” stressing that long-term success is more likely when a partner supports rather than frustrates an artiste’s career.

He added that “when the woman understands your kind of business and supports your business, that’s when you will grow.”
