Damini Ogulu, also known as Burna Boy, is the African artist with the most entries on the Billboard U.S. Hot 100 chart.
He outperformed fellow Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, known professionally as Tems.
On Tuesday, Ogulu announced the milestone on social media, describing it as a significant career achievement.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Burna Boy and Tems were previously tied for eight entries on the prestigious chart.
However, Burna Boy’s collaboration with Colombian singer Shakira on the official FIFA World Cup song, “Dai Dai,” earned him a ninth entry.
The song debuted at No. 75 on the Billboard Hot 100, bringing Burna Boy’s total number of chart entries to nine, the most for any African artist.
Burna Boy and Shakira’s performance at the FIFA World Cup opening ceremony in Mexico boosted the track’s popularity.
According to NAN, Burna Boy has surpassed Tems in terms of Billboard Hot 100 entries, making him the second-highest among African artists.
The “Last Last” singer is also the first African artist to have at least one song on the Billboard Hot 100 for six consecutive years.
