Nollywood star Akah Nnani has urged Nigeria’s leaders to take responsibility for the country’s educational situation, arguing that genuine change won’t occur until those in positions of authority are held accountable by the system they oversee.
He reportedly made the comments in response to conversations about the “Olodo uprising” during an interview with Morayo Afolabi-Brown on The Morayo Show.
He said the issue with the education system is already known by everyone but questioned whether Nigerians truly want it to continue in its current condition.
According to the actor, people need to start holding elected officials accountable.
According to Nnani, administrators frequently give the impression that they are uninterested in the issues public schools face, allowing the situation to remain the same for years.
Additionally, he recommended that legislators enact a law mandating that Nigerian politicians educate their children.
He claims that while public schools at home continue to struggle, many public officials send their kids overseas, which deters them from working to improve the system.
“I think everyone already knows the problem,” he stated. Do we want it to continue? No. Nigerians must demand accountability from their leaders. Legislators should mandate that politicians’ children attend this school. We think that these politicians care about us. They don’t.
“And they’re not going to make it better until it begins to pinch them. Their kids can’t be travelling overseas while our public schools are performing poorly. That, in my opinion, is the first step. Hold your legislative branch and your political leaders responsible. Let your House of Representatives and senators know what you want.
