Nollywood actress and filmmaker Ruth Kadiri has explained her decision to keep her marriage away from public attention, revealing that fear and uncertainty influenced how she approached the relationship.
Kadiri made the disclosure during a recent episode of the Dear Ife podcast, where she spoke about her early years of marriage and her concerns about making such a major commitment publicly.
The mother of two said she had a fear of marriage and was worried about what could happen after taking the decision to settle down. Because she was uncertain about the future, she preferred to keep the relationship and wedding private.
“I had a phobia of marriage. I was battling with the fear of the unknown and asking myself, ‘Am I going to make this decision and everything will now scatter?’ So, I wasn’t really ready to have a public marriage, and my husband was okay with it,” she said.
It was reported that Kadiri also explained she wanted to avoid unnecessary attention and drama surrounding her relationship. As a result, she and her husband, Mr Ezerika, agreed to have a small wedding attended by only 50 guests.
“Also, I didn’t want a lot of drama regarding my relationship. That’s why my husband and I invited only 50 people to our wedding. Twenty-five people were invited by him, while 25 others were invited by me.
If I were abroad, I guess we would have just probably walked to the registry and gotten married,” she said.The actress and Ezerika reportedly got married in a private ceremony around November 2018.Their first daughter was born in August 2019, while the couple welcomed their second daughter in July 2022.
