Nigerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has engaged in a heated exchange with a social media user after he called on entertainers to speak more about the challenges facing the country.

It was reported that the singer, in a post shared on his official social media page, admitted that entertainers, including himself, had not done enough to speak against injustice and the worsening state of affairs in Nigeria.

Davido said the situation in the country had become too serious for influential figures to remain silent.

In the post, Davido said Nigerian entertainers must begin to use their platforms to draw attention to the problems affecting citizens.

He wrote, “I can’t lie, we entertainers… we dey f**k up, I won’t lie, including me. We need to speak up. It’s too much injustice going on. Our country has gone.”

The comment drew mixed reactions on social media, with some praising the singer for admitting that celebrities should do more, while others questioned his sincerity.

One of those who reacted to the post was a social media user identified as Princess Luna, who accused Davido of being insincere.

She also linked him to a political group, suggesting that his statement was performative.

“Na God is going to punish you and your family. Go and do that performative rubbish in your City Boys group chat and get out of my face with all this pretentious nonsense. Na foolish Nigerians I blame,” she wrote.

Her comment appeared to anger the singer, who fired back while denying any political affiliation.

Responding to the criticism, Davido said he was not part of any “City Boy” group and insisted that he had spoken against the government in the past.

The singer also said that when he criticised the government during an appearance on American media, many Nigerians attacked him for doing so.

“I am not part of any City Boy group. When I called out the government on American media, you guys rained curses on me,” Davido wrote.

He added that his relationship with “ST” was only personal and did not mean he belonged to any political group.

“I’ve been friends with ST for years, and that’s where it stops, and I call and complain to him all the time, even in person.

“God punish your generation,” the singer added.
