Devastating and Insensitive: Nigerian Anglican Church Rejects Appointment of England’s New Archbishop

Wahala dey for church matter o! The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) don finally cut all spiritual ties with the Church of England after Bishop Sarah Mullally was announced as the new Archbishop of Canterbury — and Nigerians are not having it!

According to a fiery statement from Primate Henry C. Ndukuba, the decision to pick Bishop Sarah is nothing short of “devastating” and “insensitive.” The man of God no even mince words as he blast the move, calling it a “double jeopardy.”

Why? Because, according to him, not only is Bishop Sarah a woman — something many conservative Anglicans still reject — but she also supports same-sex marriage!

Ndukuba reminded everyone that back in 2023, when the Church of England approved blessings for same-sex couples, Bishop Sarah called it “a moment of hope.” But to the Nigerian Church, that “moment of hope” was actually the final straw that broke the camel’s back.

“How can someone who supports same-sex marriage heal a divided church?” the statement asked, making it clear that the Nigerian Anglican Church is done following the moral leadership of England.

The Church didn’t stop there o. They even sent a message to faithful Anglicans in the UK who are against same-sex marriage, telling them to “keep standing firm for the faith.”

Hmm… from the look of things, the Anglican family don turn family meeting wey scatter. 🫢
