Nigerian music is once again dominating the world stage as the 68th Grammy Awards countdown gets underway. The countdown to the 68th Grammy Awards has begun, with Nigerian music once again taking center stage on the global scene.

Five Nigerian musicians are nominated and competing for the most prestigious awards in music at the ceremony, which is scheduled for Sunday, February 1, 2026, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. The event will highlight Nigeria’s growing prominence in the global music scene.

    1. Burna Boy: With two nominations, he leads the pack and solidifies his place among Africa’s most dependable Grammy contenders. He is competing for “Love” in the Best African Music Performance category and “No Sign of Weakness” in the Best Global Music Album category.

    2. Davido: He returns with a nod for Best African Music Performance for “With You,” which features Omah Lay. The song, the lead single from his album 5ive, broke records with 4.98 million first-week Spotify Nigeria plays in 2025, just after he embarked on massive international tours and collaborations.

    3. With “Gimme Dat,” which features Wizkid, Ayra Starr wins another significant award for Best African Music Performance.

    4. Wizkid’s feature on “Gimme Dat” adds to his legendary Grammy history.

    5. Omah Lay’s appearance on Davido’s song “With You” adds him to the list. This nod demonstrates how his music resonates far beyond Nigeria’s borders and represents a significant milestone in his increasing recognition. He is well-known for his intensely emotional and vulnerable style.

Afrobeat icon Fela Anikulapo-Kuti will be the first African artist to receive a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award, adding historical significance. At the Special Merit Awards Ceremony on Saturday, January 31, 2026, he will be honoured alongside legends like Paul Simon, Chaka Khan, Whitney Houston, and Cher.
