I Expected Burna Boy To Support Me Financially – SkyB

According to veteran Nigerian singer SkyB, many Port Harcourt musicians who came up after him have not supported him in exchange for his early contributions to the industry.

He reportedly revealed this in a recent interview on the KAA Truth podcast, where he discussed his professional challenges and how things have evolved.

SkyB claimed that when he was more involved and influential in the music industry, he had previously supported a few local artists, such as Mr. 2Kay and Timaya.

He explained that he invested time and resources to help push the Port Harcourt music space forward, but now feels left behind since his fame reduced.

He also spoke about Burna Boy, saying the Grammy-winning star and other newer artistes from the same region did not reach out to support him.

Even though he did not work directly with Burna Boy in the beginning, he claims that he anticipated assistance in the form of financial support or collaboration that could enable him to return to the spotlight.

“I once gave a PA to the Governor an artist’s number, and he called the artist and told him he wanted him to perform with me at an event. The artist declined, saying he didn’t want to share stage with me,” he said. Because he didn’t want me involved, the artist turned down the contract.

“I have previously assisted these brothers. I assisted numerous artists, including Timaya and Mr. 2Kay. For the benefit of the Port Harcourt music industry, we made sacrifices. We made significant resource investments.

The thing that irritates me the most right now is Burna Boy’s rise to fame and his disregard for me and the people who made Port Harcourt musicians possible. He is meant to help me out financially or work with me to revitalise my career. That’s the issue I’m facing. They might have thought about assisting me if they had assumed I was an Igbo or Yoruba man. However, the jealousy is excessive because I am from Rivers.
