Nigerian singer Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Face or 2Baba, has opined that the ongoing comparison of singer Wizkid with the late Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, is disrespectful.

It should be noted that Wizkid recently sparked outrage by claiming he is “bigger” than Fela in response to his son Seun Kuti’s criticisms of him and his supporters. It will be recalled that Wizkid recently sparked outrage after claiming he is “bigger” than Fela in response to his son, Seun Kuti’s, criticisms of him and his fans.

In a snippet from the upcoming episode of the Mic On podcast, 2Face called the comparison ridiculous, claiming that it is both disrespectful to Fela’s legacy and unfair to Wizkid’s career.

The African Queen crooner explained that comparing Fela and Wizkid ignores their distinct eras, influences, and contributions to Nigerian music.

He stated, “Comparing Fela to Wizkid is ridiculous.” Not only is it disrespectful to Fela, but it is also unfair to Wizkid.”

Nigerian media personality Yeni Kuti has criticised Nigerian singers for comparing themselves to her father, Fela.

Yeni, who spoke to Arise TV after accepting Fela’s Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2026 Grammys, stated that Fela’s continued relevance 29 years later speaks for itself.

According to Yeni, discussions and comparisons to Fela miss the point of legacy.

She urged contemporary artists to respect Fela’s legacy and stop attempting to diminish his accomplishments by comparing themselves to a deceased individual.

According to Yeni Kuti, contemporary singers should compare themselves to their colleagues rather than Fela.
