Prince Abdulrafiu Babajide Akanni Kosoko has been officially proclaimed the Oloja of Lagos-elect by the Kosoko Royal Family, a momentous occasion in Lagos’ long-lasting royal legacy. The Kosoko Royal Family has formally declared Prince Abdulrafiu Babajide Akanni Kosoko as the Oloja of Lagos-elect, marking a historic moment in the enduring royal heritage of Lagos.

Members of the royal family flocked to the Kosoko Palace in Ereko, Lagos Island, on January 27, 2026, to witness the culturally significant announcement.

As the royal family confirmed its choice in accordance with long-standing customs and traditions, the palace courtyard was filled with customary ceremonies, prayers, and a sense of pride.

The Olori Ebi General of the Kosoko Royal Family, Mutiat Ashabi Ali-Balogun, formally introduced Prince Kosoko to the assembly and raised his hands in agreement, signifying the family’s unanimous support.

Oyindamola Ayepola, the Head of the Meshimo Ruling House and Deputy Olori Ebi General, skilfully assisted her.

With this proclamation, Prince Abdulrafiu Babajide Akanni Kosoko has taken on the role of Oloja of Lagos-elect, subject to his customary installation and capping by Oba Rilwanu Akiolu, the Oba of Lagos, in compliance with established Lagos customs and palace procedures.
