Nollywood Actress Halima’s Suspension is Lifted by AGN

Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar’s suspension has been lifted by the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN). The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has lifted the suspension of Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar.

The troubled actress has been suspended indefinitely by the AGN leadership since October 2024 due to allegations of defamation against her coworkers and well-known Nigerians.

According to the guild, a two-year investigation conducted by a panel it formed revealed Halima Abubakar’s guilt. As a result, she was prohibited from taking part in any AGN events or film projects during this time.

Emeka Rollas, the departing national president of AGN, reportedly declared the suspension to be lifted during the National Executive Council (NEC) inauguration ceremony, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Actors from various states, filmmakers, and other entertainment industry participants gathered at the AGN national secretariat on Thursday in Abuja.

Abubakar Yakubu became the new national president of the guild after Rollas’ second and final term ended in December 2025.

Rollas claims that the guild’s leadership has made the decision to take advantage of the event to declare that Halima’s suspension and the suspensions of other incompetent members will be lifted, allowing them to rejoin the organisation.

“We suspended some people in accordance with AGN law, but since I’m leaving office, I don’t want to keep them suspended.

“After conducting our investigations, we suspended Halima Abubakar from all acting and AGN activities after she sued the company for a ridiculous sum of money.

However, it would be immoral for us to abandon her in that manner because acting continues to be her primary source of income.

“Therefore, I hereby lift Halima Abubakar’s suspension today using the authority granted to me by the Board of Trustees and the entire Actors Guild of Nigeria,” he declared.

Additionally, Rollas declared that the guild’s Enugu State chapter members Jeff Okwute, Dan Ewerem, Christopher Igboji, and Chidi Concord would no longer be suspended.

Chuks Chyke, the chairman of the inauguration’s organising committee, praised the departing president earlier in his welcome speech for his bravery and inclusive leadership style, which have stabilised the guild.

“Your accomplishment will remain part of the legacy upon which we continue to build,” he said.

Chyke congratulated the new president and his team and urged them to lead inclusively and with vision, viewing their election as a sacred trust.

“Today is a historic day in the history of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, as we observe the peaceful handover of leadership and the inauguration of a new National Executive Council and president.

This event demonstrates the solidity of our creative family, the strength of our organisation, and the maturity of our procedures.

“I sincerely commend the immediate past president and executives for their service, sacrifice, and dedication; your tenure strengthened the guild’s foundation, expanded our professional relevance, and upheld the dignity of the Nigerian actor.”

In order to create a more powerful, cohesive, and internationally renowned guild, the chairman urged guild members nationwide to assist and collaborate with the new president and his team.
