Yvonne Jegede Speaks Out on Remarriage: Marriage is Overrated

In a candid interview on Naija FM, Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has shared her views on marriage, stating that she is not actively seeking to remarry and labelling the institution as “overrated.” Drawing on her own experiences, she discussed the pressures and expectations often associated with marriage and relationships.

Jegede highlighted the trend of couples who spend years dating only to face challenges post-marriage. “I’ve seen many people date for 15 or 17 years, marry for just two or three years, and then end up breaking up. Sometimes it makes you wonder if they should have just continued dating without getting married,” she noted.

While she remains open to the possibility of marriage in the future, Jegede emphasized her decision not to prioritize it as a source of happiness. “If it happens, great, but I’m not actively searching for it. I’ve learned not to rule anything out,” she explained.

She also addressed the struggles within marriage itself, pointing out the prevalent pressures and lack of tolerance. “There’s a lot of intolerance. The wife asserts her rights, and the husband does the same,” she remarked.

Encouraging individuals to pursue their own happiness, Yvonne said, “Do what brings you joy and what works for you. And if you find someone you connect with, just enjoy being together.”

Previously married to actor and film producer Olakunle ‘Abounce’ Fawole, Jegede’s union ended in 2019 after less than a year, but they share a son. Her candid reflections have sparked discussions across social media, with many Nigerians sharing diverse opinions on marriage, relationships, and evolving social norms.
